Omelia Stewart was appointed Alderman in Oil City in 2017, making history as the first, female African American alderman in the town.

A graduate of North Caddo Magnet High School, Stewart dove right in with the newly elected Mayor James Sims, assisting with the building of the new water plant, restoration park as well as mending the unity in the community.

Her work in the community did not stop at City Hall.  She founded Omelia’s Haven, a non-profit designed to help the community with resources that help fill the gaps for those in need of utilities and other necessities for mind, body and soul.

We congratulate Omelia Stewart for being black history and making a difference in Oil City and surrounding areas.
