29 Days of Local Black History: Pastor James Sims
Pastor James Sims, Mayor of Oil City, Louisiana

Pastor James Sims may wear many hats, yet he wears them well. Not only was he the first African American to hold a public office in Oil City, but in 2017 became the first to serve as Mayor.

A man with a true servant’s heart, he is also the pastor of Lake Zion Baptist Church, Church of Living God in Belcher, Louisiana. He says serving as mayor is a ministry to him, and desires to fix Oil City’s economic poverty through job creation.

He and his wife and high school sweetheart, Virigina, enjoy serving the people of Oil City along with their church family.

We salute and honor The Honorable James Sims!
