On tomorrow (Wednesday, November 25, 2020), several community groups in the Allendale Community will gather to provide a hot Thanksgiving meal for Senior Citizens and residents of the Allendale and Adjacent communities.

Inspired by the Pastoral leadership of Rev. Greg L. Oliver Sr., of the Mt. Canaan Baptist Church and in conjunction with Caddo Parish Commissioner Steven Jackson and Grace Project Inc, parishioners and residents of the Allendale area and Caddo Parish Commission District 3 are gathering to deliver hot meals to the Senior Citizens associated with the Caddo Council on Aging as well as residents of the Greater Allendale Community.

Last year the church, Grace Project Inc and Commissioner Jackson worked together to serve over 250 meals to seniors and residents in the Greater Allendale Community as part of the “Love in Action” program for Thanksgiving. This year, this same team has sought out corporate sponsors such as Bergeron’s Restaurant, Piccadilly Cafeteria and Down Home Meats which will help the group in its plan to serve over 2000 meals to guests this Thanksgiving.

Caddo Commissioner Jackson said “We are committed to fostering a spirit of volunteerism borne out of our shared sense of community. We want to bless those who have opened doors for us.”

As part of the program, volunteers from around the city will deliver meals to those senior citizens who usually are served by the Caddo Council on Aging. This year, not only will a Thanksgiving meal be delivered, but an additional meal will also be delivered to the seniors.

Residents of the Greater Allendale Community are invited to drive up to the church, located at 1666 Alston Street at 11am in order to receive their grab and go lunch. Only one lunch will be provided to each guest as they drive through the line.
