August 28 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
For nearly 55 years, Southern University at Shreveport has served as the gateway to higher education, career attainment, and ultimately, a better way of life for citizens of Northwest Louisiana, especially African Americans. Through the years, your prayers and unwavering faith have inspired the hard work of dedicated faculty, allowing SUSLA not only to survive but thrive! Here are just a few ways SUSLA has grown and is continuing to meet the needs of our community:
- Quality Programs: Over 32 academic and certificate programs, including Nursing & Allied Health, STEM, Polysomnography, Engineering Process Technology, Artificial Intelligence (A. I.) & Robotics, Business Administration & Accounting, Aerospace Technology, and a host of Workforce Certification Programs.
- Academic Achievement: (Addressing urgent Workforce needs for First Responders in Healthcare) 100% NCLEX Pass Rate LPN-RN Nursing students, Fall 2021; New Partnership with SUBR. LPN to BSN Degree. New EMT/Parademic Program.
- New Learning Facilities & Services: Alphonse Jackson Hall; Recently named Business Department, “The Roy Griggs School of Business.” Milam Street Kitchen Incubator and Community Kitchen (MS-KICK) for aspiring chefs. SUSLA School of Nursing – on Texas Street in the heart of downtown Shreveport.
Southern has accomplished a lot, yet, there is much to be done. On August 28, 2022, the entire Southern University System will unite for a day of unity and worship to support the SU Campuses through Million Dollar March (MDM). The MDM campaign encourages philanthropic support from alums, friends, and supporters and runs through August 31, 2022. Today, we are appealing to our faith-based community friends to dedicate Sunday, August 28, as “March with SUSLA: Southern Sunday.” This event will be held at the historic Mount Canaan Baptist Church at 6 pm. Featured guests will be Dr. E. Dewey Smith and Lemmie Battles.
