STEM Central LA partners with DOD Stem and Entergy to host free “STEM Saturday” focused on the “Power of Chemistry” at Alexandria Youth Camp

100 students, parents and volunteers expected for STEM Saturday as college interns STEM

professionals lead students in various STEM activities

STEM Central Louisiana in partnership with Entergy and the Department of Defense will hosts an in-person STEM Saturday on October 1, 2022 from 9:00 am – 12:30pm at the Alexandria Youth and Teen Center located at 1801 Sylvester St. Alexandria, LA 73101. Registered participants will have the opportunity to build and test their own chemical battery clock as they learn all about endothermic and exothermic reactions.

The goal is to help them understand how the use of molecules and compounds cause different reactions through various experiments. All of the required materials will be provided when students arrive. This is an opportunity for students to innovate, create and make with college interns and STEM professionals as we engage the youth of Shreveport-Bossier in this vertical mentoring opportunity. In conjunction with this event, STEM Central Louisiana will host a professional development opportunity for teachers to attend in-person or virtually. The session will be an opportunity for educators to learn to tap into your student's spatial reasoning to strengthen their problem-solving skills and obtain lesson plans and exercises that enrich their current curriculum.
