The Legends Tour Delivers A Legendary Evening of Praise & Worship
The Legends Tour featuring Bishop Marvin Sapp, Bishop Hezekiah Walker and Pastor Donnie McClurkin made its second stop of their twelve city tour in Richmond, VA on Friday, February 9. St. Paul’s Baptist Church, where Dr. Rev. Lance D. Watson is the pastor, hosted the evening before a crowd of Gospel music lovers who were not disappointed.
The evening opened with each of the singers, performing a couple of their hit songs, before they all returned to greet the audience. The three singers then performed countless back to back hits that had the audience on their feet and clapping their hands. Accompanying the singers was an amazing choir, that was made up by some of the area’s best singers that followed every note, and never missed a beat.
Bishop Marvin Sapp, stepped onto the stage first and set the atmosphere with his many hits including, The Best In Me, You Kept Me and Never Would Have Made It. With his timeless voice that effortlessly pulled in everyone to be in the moment, it was easy to see, why his name falls under the title, legend.
Donnie McClurkin took the stage next and within minutes, told his musicians, stop…stop…this is not a concert…this is ministry. It was something about the way he said this, that just made sense, following Sapp’s performance that had many in the crowd feeling the warmth of the Holy Spirit. McClurkin went on to sing many of his favorite traditional hymns, in addition to his many top ten hits with the crowd singing along, bringing many to tears in their own personal moments with God.
Bishop Hezekiah stepped up next with a slight change to the energy in the sanctuary as he performed many of his high power songs that got people on their feet with some now dancing in the aisles. From, Clean Inside, Better, Thank You Lord to Wonderful Is Your Name.
In between each set the legends exchanged light banter that kept the transitions smooth.
Following a quick five minute intermission, the legends returned with Pastor Donnie explaining that they are humbled to be on this tour to do what they do, but they “could not do this without standing on the shoulders of legends like, Mattie Moss Clarke, Albertina Walker, The Caravans, James Cleveland, The Clark Sisters, The Winans” and so many others.
